Commonly encountered musical styles. 

Basics in technique are introduced and instilled in this class. Fundamentals of grip, foot position, posture, and stool height are all fully covered.

The student is taught standard and Swiss rudiments to develop and improve both control and speed. Bass drum, hi-hat, and snare exercises are included to build coordination and independence at the kit.

Practicing songs.

 

LEVEL 2 - Improving your skills:

Styles. Click tempos. Speeds. Basic rock, funk, country, blues, Latin, jazz, Gospel.

Mixing and combinned tempos.

Providing an overview of drumming styles through listening and analysis. 

Listening Survey. Music Appreciation. 

Musical ideas, concepts, and genres.

 

 

LEVEL 3 - Mastering your skills:

Rudiments are bench marked for speed improvement.

Concepts and criteria. Attitude.

Exercises in "Groovin' and Fillin'," "Recovery and Adjustment," and "The Pocket and Its Sides" are essential for the professional drummer.Dynamics. Interdisciplinary ensemble class. Fills.

Improvisation. Importance and develop an understanding of the evolution and characteristics of various musical styles.

Modal progressions and modal improvisation.

Drums solos and Independence.

 

LEVEL 4 - On stage:

Performance Counseling.

Concepts and criteria. Attitude.

Styles and Bands.

Interdisciplinary, collaborative ensemble class which strives to create a "real world paid gig" environment.

Live sound performance.

On stage.
